Check cloud Kerberos trust prerequisites before using Hello for on-premises SSO.
Windows Hello for Business can give users SSO to AD-integrated resources without going back to a password prompt. The trust model is what connects the Hello credential to Active Directory.
For a hybrid environment, cloud Kerberos trust is Microsoft’s preferred option when you don’t need certificate authentication scenarios. It avoids deploying PKI for this trust and waiting for Hello public keys to sync to AD.
Hello creates a device-bound key pair. Microsoft Entra Kerberos lets Entra issue a partial AD ticket-granting ticket, which the client exchanges with a domain controller for a full TGT. AD still handles service tickets and authorization.
Before enabling it, check the deployment requirements: synchronized identities, Entra joined or hybrid joined devices, supported Windows clients, patched Windows Server 2016-or-later DCs, and reachable read-write DCs. You’ll create the AzureADKerberos object for the relevant domains and configure both Hello and cloud trust policies.
A few catches worth checking in your pilot:
Test the actual apps your users need. A successful Windows sign-in by itself doesn’t confirm SSO to on-premises resources.
